Child labour is illegal in India – yet, it continues to be a critical issue with over 33 million children, between the ages of 6 and 18 years of age, working as child labourers. We’ve all seen child labour in some form or the other in our day to day lives – be it at tea stalls, factories, or even as domestic help. Not only are these children deprived of the opportunity of going to school, but they are also vulnerable to abuse and exploitation.
At CRY UK we work tirelessly to ensure that such children continue their education instead of working so that they have a chance at a better future. We do this by focusing on:

All you have to do is choose the amount that you’d like to donate, fill in your personal information as it helps us process your contribution and issue you a receipt and check all the information entered carefully. Then just choose your payment method and fill in the required details. You will get an immediate confirmation of your donation along with an email with a donation number.

Gift Aid is one of the easiest ways to make your donation tax effective. It is simply a statement by a tax paying donor that they want the charity to reclaim the basic rate tax on your donation from the HMRC. This is a great way to add 25% to the value of your contribution to CRY UK at no extra cost to you!
For every £1 you donate to CRY UK in a financial year, you must have paid 25p in income or capital gains tax in the same financial year to qualify for Gift Aid. If you do not pay tax in the UK, you are not eligible for Gift Aid.
You know you’re a UK taxpayer If:

Basic tax rate is currently at 20%. Your donation of £1 is treated as net after tax from £1.25 (£1.25 minus 20% is £1).
You may still pay tax on a private pension plan or a savings account, or pay capital gains tax if you sell property or shares – and so, are eligible for Gift Aid.
CRY UK can only claim back the basic rate tax on your donation. As a higher rate taxpayer, if you declare your donations on your tax return, you can claim a rebate based on the difference between the higher rate and the basic rate when you fill in your self-assessment form. For example, if a higher rate taxpayer makes donations worth £100 over a year, on top of the £25 that CRY UK claims back directly, you can reclaim as much as £25 from HMRC.
If you pay a lower rate of tax,, CRY UK can still claim back 25p for each £1 you donate, provided you pay enough tax to cover the claim in the tax year you make the contribution.
If you normally make donations via CAF, tax has already been reclaimed. However, please fill in the declaration anyway so that any separate donations you might make are tax effective as well.
To simplify matters for both you and CRY UK, the declaration covers all contributions that you’ve made to CRY UK in the last four years; as long as you are eligible for Gift Aid.
You can cancel an existing Gift Aid Declaration at any time by notifying us. If your circumstances change and you no longer pay enough income or capital gains tax to cover the amount claimed by CRY UK, please email us at cry.uk@crymail.org. You can also write to us at:

CRY India is an Indian non-profit organisation that was founded by Rippan Kapur in 1979 to ensure happier childhoods for India’s children.
CRY UK is an independent nonprofit organisation affiliated to CRY India but registered in the UK with its independent board of trustees. However, all the funds we raise are used for the benefit of underprivileged children in India.
We raise the funds that we need for our work with the help of kind individuals like you as well as through CSR grants by corporates and institutions.
Our rigorous selection process is based on the values of trust, transparency and accountability. We screen all the applications we receive, make a shortlist basis the robustness of the applicant’s current operations and number of years of experience and conduct a field visit to evaluate shortlisted applicants and extensively debate our findings internally. Those applicants who meet all our criteria are recommended for approval by our board of trustees.
All funds raised by CRY UK are allocated depending on the need on ground. We ensure that resources are optimally used by our project partners through regular budgeting and reporting systems aided by a firm of chartered accountants specialising in this sector. Our program teams visit each project on a quarterly basis and conduct meetings with the staff, parents, children and the community to assess the project’s progress. Every project is subject to an annual evaluation before we grant them the funds for next year.

In order to achieve sustainable impact, we pool all the donations we receive and allocate them to the projects and programs we support instead of individual children. This helps us ensure that there is no differentiation between the children and that your money is able to create long-term change for all children.
We believe that children are entitled to their privacy as well and we take their need for anonymity very seriously. However, while the names of children are withheld, we encourage you to visit our projects so that you can experience the impact your donation is being able to create!
Yes, our full-time employees are given regular salaries – we believe that this is important to attract the professional talent we need to manage our activities effectively. However, it is important to note that CRY salaries are very modest in comparison with commercial corporate organisations.
At CRYUK, we work hard to ensure you do not face issues when making a donation. However we realise that sometimes errors can happen.
Under charity law, charities are not permitted to refund donations, other than in specific circumstances. The Charities Act 2011 can be found here.
However, if such a situation arises please feel free to write to us at cry.uk@crymail.org.
We will respond with a few questions with a request for your responses as without those, we would not be able to initiate the refund process.
